CANNABIS THC COOKIES AND INFUSED FOODS
Case Study: Next Level Edibles
Cannabis-infused THC sweet baked goods
Packaging design for custom and stock packaging, for THC sugar, and infused cannabis coconut oil for cooking, as well as readymade weed cookies in multiple flavors. Cannabis infused products for the enthused cannabis home chef, and people with a sweet tooth for weed!
CLIENT: Next Level Edibles Company
PROJECT: Packaging design and branding
Original logo concept – going for a Betty Crocker vibes, midcentury swank look
Pouch packaging of the final product – client’s own concept for logo, design modified from the original fifties retro concept
Original brand inspiration was a Wes Anderson vibe – Parisian muted warm pastels, with the idea of a cannabis patisserie, making THC-infused cupcakes, macarons, cookies, and other lovely sweet things. The original idea of cupcakes was ditched after realizing the logistical nightmare it would be – at the time of sale, with how long cannabis products take from manufacturing to market, it would be essentially be a corner store twinkie, dusty and crusty and not fresh. But hey, we problem solved, and had some ideas (infused sprinkles? THC powdered frosting mix people make at home? Refrigerated cupcakes with mini fridges in every dispensary?
Made for a great story of me going above and beyond – not every packaging designer will offer up a source for vegan sprinkles makers for their packaging project customers!
Paper tube packaging for cookies was considered at one point, but getting them in a child resistant packaging option would have been impractical for consumers, and cost prohibitive for the company. Pouches for the win. Sometimes you need to simplify the plans – but always nice to dream big first!
When designing for labels, with clients often not having a clear picture of how much space there is for copy (or what to even say), we often start with placeholder copy. I often assist in creative copy, proofreading, and compliance.
Final version of the coconut oil jar – the plan was to make a shrink sleeve or clear label, for an illusion of a screenprinted jar. Final version ended up being a regular satin BOPP label for an amber CR cap jar.
